The Holiday Inn Express Wilkes-Barre PA is a newly renovated hotel (former Hampton Inn). We stayed in a king room which had a medium size refrigerator, microwave, armoire, dresser, desk, and sitting chair. The room was a comfortable size even with the amount of furniture. The bathroom was comfortable and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable if you like a firm mattress. The hotel sits atop of a rock cut with the front facing out over the spectacular view of the Wyoming Valley. The rear (our room faced) faces the rock cut and woods (very quiet). The hotel offers a free hot breakfast and the dinning room was clean and roomy. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was maintained very well for the two nights we stayed there. Would definitely stay there any time.

The hotel had been completely renovated since it was a Hampton Inn. The rooms are tastefully decorated (loved the bathroom vanity!) and clean, the continental breakfast is very nice....we found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. We had the opportunity to speak to not only front desk staff (the young man working the evening shift was fantastic...what a personality!!) but to several members of the housekeeping staff....all friendly and professional. The Hotel is American owned and operated. We were in a King suite which had a king bed and a queen sofa bed. We traveled with my two small children. The in room movies were pricey (12.95 per movie!!) so we watched TV instead (not a big deal). I liked that they offered an iron and an ironing board hidden in the wardrobe...that definitely came in handy. The mattress was neither too hard or too soft. As for any complaints...the pillows were too soft, and the lighting in the bathroom was inadequate for applying make up. Also, they had several contractors staying at the hotel long term who were driving large construction vehicles. These thoughtless people not only took up all the ""close"" parking spots on the upper two parking levels, but parked their huge trucks sideways across several spaces so no one else could. The Hotel administration should not have allowed that since, had these people parked in the lower lot, they would have had plenty of room for their huge trucks without parking across several spaces. Also, be sure to follow the signs leading to the hotel... you have to drive past an office complex and up a steep hill to get to the hotel...but the views of the Wyoming Valley are worth it!!

We had to take a handicap accessible room as they said that's all they had. Said when you book online with services like travel website, they don't guarantee room type you reserve. Confusion on check-in as travel website books rooms with their own credit card and clerk didn't know that. Oversize door to bathroom blocked entire hallway if it was left open, and when it was closed, it was VERY hard to pull or push open. A handicapped person never would have been able to do it! Very small sink area, no room for anything and not even a toilet paper holder. Mirror over sink was placed too low - I guess for a person in a wheelchair.
