I have stayed here twice - once in June and once in July, 2009. Both times my stays were great. The rooms were very clean and newly renovated. The bed was a huge king, and the linens were top quality, with many fluffy pillows. The second time, the room a/c was not working properly, and when I reported this to the front desk, someone came right away to check it out, and then moved me to a different room, with an upgrade that included a spa tub, fireplace and flatscreen TV. I was helped to move my things to the new room. The pool is charming, with two waterfalls that run continuously. Pool towels are provided, as are lounge chairs and tables with umbrellas. Everyone there was helpful and friendly. I saw families there with kids who seemed to be having lots of fun in the pool. I plan to stay there again.

I have stayed at the Lodge on the Desert at least 6 times and always feel as though I am "coming home". We like it because it is so unique -- so Tucson -- much better than a cookie-cutter hotel that could be located anywhere in the US. I will admit there are a couple of very dreary rooms in a bilious shade of green but the suites are beautiful; so private and I love staying there. The pool was a disappointment our last trip because it was closed for cleaning during our entire visit. The food in the dining room is excellent and the waitstaff and everyone else is very friendly. We were given a good discount because of the construction. Our only concern is that the addition will not ruin the old Tucson ambience but we are hoping to return in the Spring to find out. Great central location, too.

My wife and I traveled from Missouri to Arizona for the funeral of an uncle. The pictures and description of this hotel were completely innacurate. We had read the information and were traveling with pets. We were willing to pay $ for the pets. They charged us $ per day instead and could not provide any reason why except to say they would have to deep clean the carpet in the room even though our pets are completely housebroken and non-allegenic. The carpet in the room was completely worn out and never was deep cleaned in its life. There was deep dirt and "dust bunnies" under all the furniture and the bed. We also had to carry our luggage through the lobby and up and down steps due to construction. The only place to park was a gravel parking lot and we had to walk a long distance to the room. The room was not acceptable for any standards and we would not ever consider returning. They are handling their construction process without any reguard for their present guests. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!!!!

It would have been a lovely hotel if they construction was done. Give the photographer major credit on the pics because it really doesn't look like that. If you stay at all during the week construction starts at 7am. When we got there, our toilet didn't flush. Also, the air conditioning in the room didn't work at all. So come 10pm at night, we had to switch rooms. They were great about it and gave us a fantastic upgrade but still a pain that late after a 13 hour car ride. The pool was disgusting and we avoided it. Restuarant was pretty but over priced with a VERY small selection. The vast majority of the hotel is under construction so you see that everywhere kind overshadowing the beauty of the place. I'd go again but wait until the construction was totally done.

We were looking forward to our stay at the Lodge on the Desert - we'd done some research and this looked like an authentic Tucson adobe-style hotel at an affordable price. However, on arriving , the renovations being undertaken unfortunately marred our stay. There was a temporary car park with a dusty gravel surface and green fencing blocked what should have been a beautiful view of the mountains.

On arrival, the desk staff were apologetic and said they had attempted to contact everyone due to stay at the hotel during the renovations (we received no heads-up and judging by the fact it's still not mentioned in the online hotel description, I don't think they've tried very hard!). We had the opportunity to view the room and stay one night to decide on whether we wanted to stay there. We chose to stay as we expected to only really be using the hotel as somewhere to lay our heads and relax after sightseeing etc.

After having one mildly refreshing swim in the murky pool, a day later we thought our luck was in as it was being cleaned - however that was our first and last swim as it took 3 days to clean! Not good - and I had to feel sorry for the kids that were also staying at the hotel with their families.

Apart from the downsides mentioned - the rooms and breakfasts were superb and this place looks like it will be great when finished - but that's of little consolation if you book now...
