We took our daughter and a friend to Tucson to celebrate her Sweet 16. We had a lovely weekend at the Ventana and would recommend it. The staff was excellent, the desert surroundings unique, and we enjoyed all of the amenities the hotel had to offer- even a late night telescope show poolside! Some parts of the hotel are showing their age- e.g. patio furniture - but, overall we were happy with our stay.

We had a wonderful, wonderful stay. It was my first time at Loews Ventana Canyon and everything was perfect. The resort is built right into the mountain and we enjoyed the views from our balcony. It was very peaceful.

OK so we left the kids elsewhere and spent 2 nights on our own. Had a wonderful time. 4th floor room view over the ""City"", not as scenic as other views in hotel but did not do a lot of time on the private balcony. Staff was great. Arrive at the pool before 10 for a spot.

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the years and other than the pricey food, almost always had a positive experience. But the last stay in November was lousy. Poor service (no roll away bed as promised, no newspapers - although the front desk specifically asked which ones we wanted at our door) pricey room service (a $100 food credit was quickly absorbed by the $80 bill for two kids' pastas, two desserts and two appetizers, not to mention the 21% gratituity charge). Costly amenities ($11 a day for Internet service, $10 to use the on-site workout facilities. HELLO?). I used my cellphone, so I was able to avoid the $1 a call charges on the hotel phone. After one night, I requested a larger room, thinking that with two teen girls, we could use the extra space. But they refused unless we ponied up $100 a night extra. Kind of surprising, given that the hotel was at less than 50% capacity. You'd think they would want to please customers and entice them to return.

There were fees and charges everywhere I looked. I arrived in my room thirsty from my trip and was welcomed by two big bottles of water.....for $12! Most hotels aspiring to this class welcome you to your room, they immediately started trying to weasel extra fees out of me. They advertise high-speed internet, but it's not wireless and they want $12 a day or some similar rate. My cell phone wouldn't work on the property, and there was a $1 surcharge for each phone call, even local calls. Every time I turned around it seemed they wanted another fee. This is supposed to be a high end property. This mercantile approach wasn't gracious or welcoming. It was a lovely site, but won't return until the corporate management stops seeing guests as walking ATMs.
