So, I'm of two minds on this hotel. For the off-season price we got (mid 60s) it was a very good value. I mean, ocean front, pool, two queen beds, etc., for that price? And, it was clean. Great. Decor, carpet, bathroom, etc., a bit tired, but perfectly functional. All the staff we interacted with were great, though. Having to park in the remote lot was a bit of a pain, but it was only one block away. The main lot got pretty crowded when we were checking in and is tight to maneuver in. Plenty of luggage carts, though, made loading/unloading not too bad. We've stayed in just about all the ocean-front hotels in Va Beach (we always go off-season), and I'd say this is middle-of-the-road. You have to keep in mind that beach-front hotels tend to get more beat-up than your normal roadside Comfort Inn. Whole families cram themselves into a room for up to a week, which I'm sure wears things out much faster and makes maintenance more challenging. If I was paying full-fare summer prices, I'm sure I'd have more to complain about. But at their reasonable off-season prices, it's a bargain. We stayed with our four-year-old son and had no real issues. The carpet was showing its age (pulls, tears), the bathroom tile could use to be replaced, but all things considered it wasn't that bad.

Would not stay there again. Duct tape covering holes in the elevator carpet was the first clue. Doors to the rooms were scratched and needed repainting. Carpets were old and bumpy like they hadn't been tacked down correctly. The vanity in our bathroom was cracked and the wallpaper was torn in several places. The Virginia Beach strip is very safe, but the extra lock was loose on our door and broken on a friend's door down the hall. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable, but the mattresses looked like they were pretty old.

Atlantic Sands was probably the worst hotel that I have ever been to. We did not even stay one night. When I was checking in there was someone already complaining at the front desk and the staff did not act bothered by it. One of our rooms had mold behind the lamps and the walls were full of moisture. The floor in the room was soaken wet from the AC unit and there was hair around the sink. Upon checking out and getting my money back, the staff was not in the least concerned about why we were leaving. I WILL NEVER STAY AT OR RECOMMEND THAT HOTEL.

The hotel is OLD, but understand that it used to be a Best Western. It did not smell the best. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in our room anyway. The view was great. Pool was clean. Noticed pool was cleaned twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. The lights were out down our hallway which made it a little difficult seeing to get into the room at night. The icemaker NEVER had any ice in it so we had to go to another floor every time. Soda machine in lobby ate our money. Most of the staff was friendly. Room service wasn't great, had to ask for toilet paper and coffee daily. They never left any extra coffee cups. I bought my own paper cups anyway. Cleaning staff ran out of towels 1 day so they came back and delivered the towels, but did not service our room. All in all it wasn't a bad stay and I'd stay again, although reading other reviews, I may reconsider. I didn't let these little inconveniences ruin my stay.
