smoke alarm battery failed at 3 a.m. / beeped very loudly / had to stand on the bed to remove the battery and on top of that the phone in the room did not work so if there had been an emergency we would not have been able to reach help without the aid of a neighbor. /also, the concessions are expensive and too spicy for our taste. Be prepared.

We thought it would be fun to stay at the park but wish we would have driven to Cortez. The rooms were tiny and in dire need of updating. Check in staff was awesome check out staff hadn't woken up yet. The most expensive room we stayed in on our trip and by far the worst. The infomation we had said check out time was 11 but housekeeping was knocking on doors at 9. The room was so dirty my son who is allergic to dust had to go sleep in our pickup halfway through the night so he could breath. It was a night I never want to relive.

This hotel is a great location, inside the park. Otherwise if you stay outside the park, you are driving about 20 miles back and forth if you spend a few days at Mesa Verde. We had 1 full day in the park and that was great. What the hotel looks like on the websites is not exactly what you get. We had confirmed a king bed and upon arrival, none were left. Ok I can live with that. Unfortunately we paid top dollar for the room and ended up facing some bushes. I worked in the hotel business for ten years, I know you can't please everyone. I think the biggest problem was the food/dining accommodations. Aramark is the vendor and honestly, your stuck if don't bring food, drinks, etc. The food was nothing exciting and limited menu. What I don't understand is you have a great location, view, etc. and they could really fix up the rooms and food and charge what they want. The park is wonderful and not to be missed. I just think as an American Park we can do a little better with the rooms and food and most visitors would be happy even on a budget.

First, you will not get your money's worth if you stay here. My wife and I got one of the Kiva King rooms and found it small. Luckily, the weather cooperated during our stay so we were not forced indoors. Second, we had a very nice view. Some rooms have a great view of a parking lot. Third, saving the worst for last, the bathroom in our room was terrible. The shower stall was about 30" square. The shower curtain did not stop water from getting all over the floor. This was not a problem because the crack in the floor in front of the shower stall provided excellent drainage. Flushing the toilet was always an adventure due to the lack of water pressure and the low water level in the tank. To be safe, we used the facilities at the office. If it weren't for the location, I don't see how this place could stay open. My wife and I stayed for 3 days the week before Memorial Day. It was our first and last time. Stay in Cortez and make the drive!
