Big Meadows Lodge is one of my familly's favorite stops on vacation. First and foremost, it's a great place to see wildlife. During our last trip we saw a family of skunks, groundhogs, plenty of deer, and other creatures. I think we are the only people who have not seen bear there. The naturalist said that the park has never had more black bear in it. There are also plenty of hiking trails. Our room had been recently redecorated -- a nice job, but we would have preferred not to have a TV. The dinning room is awesome -- the main lobby and dinning room has a spectacular view down to the valley. Our meal was first-rate, although a bit pricey. My only complaint is that our hardwood floor had a layer of grit and dirt on it. The staff was friendly and the naturalist programs are interesting. Another asset is that the park is so much cooler in the summer months, due to its high elevation. One reminder: driving on Skyline Drive is beautiful, but very slow going. It seemed to take forever to get to the lodge from the front gate. We'd definetly come here again. (We had someone tell us that the park is much less crowded during the week. We went during the week and did not think it was at all crowded.)
