I enjoyed my stay at the Governor. The hotel is beautiful and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Thre restaurant This downtown hotel is within walking distance of the light rail system, numerous ethnic restaurants, Portland's beautiful public library and many other sites, it is also on the streetcar line. It is a great place to write and research. II say it is a real winner. I will definitely stay there again.

Excellent hotel. Location was close to many restaurants, brew pubs. Hotel staff was very friendly, especially, R, at the front desk. When our reservation was mixed up, she generously upgraded our room to accomodate us for our inconvenience. The room was very nice, corner room, two window view over the downtown area. Very much worth the price.

The Governor Hotel was a perfect hotel for the 1st time Portland visitor. The tri-met train from the airport stopped a block away, the street car right out front and it is in the center of everything. It was walking distance to Powells and Pearl St attractions. The streetcar outside goes to the waterfront and the Nob Hill area. Staff was friendly and helpful with directions and info. Little restaurants were close by and the food carts outside were great. The Hotel has lots of historical personality and character and the room w/queen bed was clean, comfortable and charming. Housekeeping kept everything very nice and tidy. The 6th floor room we had was very quiet, which was great. The neighborhood around the hotel felt safe and was pretty with all the shady trees. After seeing where other downtown hotels were, I was very glad we picked the Governor. Jake's restaurant was kinda bland. No need to eat there unless you don't have time to eat anywhere else. Staff there was friendly. Will definitely go back and stay there again.

I felt that because I booked through a on-line travel site, that my hotel experience was less than optimum. Poor room site.. wake-up calls requests ignored and room refurbished only once in 4 days stay. The one exception was a guest host named Roxanne. She went out of her way and beyond other employee actions to try to make my stay a positive.

I stayed at the Governor for 5 nights at the end of April/beginning of May. My stay could not have been better. I arrived after 11pm and was greeted warmly by reception, which is staffed 24 hours a day. Although I took a taxi from the airport, the hotel is quite accessible by public transportation. (Less than a block from the train that leaves from the airport.) Also, the neighborhood where the hotel is located feels quite safe. In addition to these practical matters, the hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and completely comfortable. The lobby has a working fire place, comfy chairs and accents of marble. Don't miss the lovely stained glass dome near reception. An added "perk" is the fact that a Starbucks is adjacent to the lobby. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite - a total surprise to me that I appreciated no end. The large, pretty windows overlooked a downtown street. The living, bed, and bathroom were all exceedingly inviting. Housekeeping was wonderful. The hotel is walking distance to city center places of interest and many wonderful restaurants. Although I didn't get a chance to try the highly recommended Jakes Grill which is accessible through the lobby, I suggest visitors try these local eateries: AJ on the Rails, Kenny & Zuke's Deli, and Pastini's. This was my first visit to Portland and I was traveling alone - key to a successful trip is where one chooses to stay. I recommend the Governor without hesitation. Portland is one of the lovliest and friendliest places I have had the pleasure of visiting. I can't wait to return. Enjoy your travels!!!
