Understanding up front that the price range I was shopping wouldn't land me in a 5 star hotel, the Downtown Value Inn neither presented a "value" nor qualified as an inn. My first impression upon arriving at the inn was "please, tell me this isn't the motel I booked". The facilities were at best dingy and unhospitable. There was debris from obvious repairs, not renovation, that littered the parking area. The "lobby" was reminiscent of a pay-by-the-hour motel in a seedy red light district, which was a contrast to the relatively decent surrounding neighborhood. The front desk clerk was disinterested and didn't exactly make one feel welcomed. The stairway leading to the room was old and tattered, which was an accurate prelude to the condition of the room. The actual room was small, stale and in need of cosmetic attention. Probably the most telling detail that would describe this experience is the remote control that had been wrapped with scotch tape to secure the batteries, which need to be manually pushed in with your thumb in order to operate the controls. I have to believe that for even the low price I paid for this room, there had to be something better. Regardless, even considering I was vacationing alone on a four state motorcycle tour and consider myself to be low maintenance, I would definitely pay twice as much to avoid such an uncomfortable experience.

I do not believe that this hotel has been cleaned in over 3 years!!! NO EXAGERATION! The parking is horrible and it STINKS HORRIBLY inside! We had reserved a King size bed and were in a full, not even a Queen! I would be surprised if there wasn't bugs it was so gross!!!! Save your money and stay somewhere else. Location to Downtown was the only plus!

Close to Everything!
07/19/2007If you have to do anything at psu or ohsu, then this is worth a look. you can walk right on campus. don't expect luxurious digs, and extra towels ...
If you have to do anything at PSU or OHSU, then this is worth a look. YOu can walk right on campus. Don't expect luxurious digs, and extra towels seem to be at a premium. Condition of the rooms are not too bad, but the halls smell like ashtrays. Fair value for the money. Clerks are very helpful in giving directions.

I phoned tasking about transportation from the airport. Directions were clear. This is an older frame building. (the owner?/manager ) offered me four rooms to choose from and then when I said I needed the internet, he offered another one nearer the server. It works well, hence this review! The room was clean, 2beds, desk, tv Wcable, a fridge and a microwave. It is across the street from the university bookstore. .
