This was a great overnighter. We were coming back from a Nor-Cal vacation and needed a place to stay - but on a budget. The rooms were fresh, clean, comfortable though a bit cramped. Everything worked, the TV was fine, free Wi-Fi, carpet newer, paint fresh, bathrooms spotless, beds comfortable, sheets and coverings clean and new. The exterior was well kept and clearly something the proprietors put effort into. The pool was so-so, in the corner of the parking lot against the building. My kids did not use it, but it would be OK. Breakfast was also good, with the standard budget continental fare. However, they had a waffel maker which actually was AWESOME. Staff was friendly and attentive - i also liked getting a free paper. For a family on a budget (weekday rates are HALF the price of weekends!), this is a good choice for a day or so. For a week, it would be kind of cramped.

I was a little worried about my trip to Santa Cruz as every single motel on this site has a preponderance of very bad reviews. But I had to go so I picked one almost at random - can't pick by reviews if ALL the reviews are bad! But the motel was very nice! Clean, quiet enough, the staff was professional. No complaints on my part. Parking was a bit tight, but I never had to park on the street and I was there for three nights. The in-room fridge was larger than most motel fridges - I could stand my drinks upright. The ironing board cover was ratty, and of course this was the only time ever I've needed to iron my clothes while in a motel! but the iron itself was clean and worked just fine so it didn't hurt my clothes. The continental breakfast was perfectly adequate, although frankly for California in June I hoped for better fruit. But they had cereal and coffee and orange juice and a waffle maker and pastries. It's not really near anything except the highway from San Jose, but that's what I needed. Half hour walk to the Boardwalk. Probably about the same to downtown. Easy access to both highways 17 and 1. I didn't use the pool as there were always men standing about talking as if hoping some young thing would come for them to ogle. A family did use the pool my last day there. No fitness room. There is a computer in the lobby.

I was very disappointed about the appearance and cleanliness of the rooms and how crowded and tight the parking was. We reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights and after the first night I wanted out. My husband tried to cancel the 2nd night, but the owner said that if we booked through travelocity we would have to contact them. We attempted to e-mail that morning, hoping to recieve a response before the next evening, nothing. About 7 am that morning (Aug. 12) the power went off in Santa Cruz leaving us with no electricity to get dress, and no breakfast (due to the uncleanliness of the hotel, we decided not to eat breakfast there). Our hands were tied and we felt helpless, after a long day in Santa Cruz I did not want to back into a room with squeaky bed, small lumpy pilllows, holes iin walls, stains on the chairs and furniure from salvation army. This was a horrilbe experience and I learned that it is best to book through the hotel than having to book on line than through a travel service.

We arrived quite late at night and were pleasantly and efficiently checked in. Our room was in the back which was well lit and had covered parking. The walkway was a padded material that kept traffic outside the rooms practically soundless. The room was immaculate and supplied a refrigerator, microwave, t.v.,clock radio, hairdryer, iron and board. There was a table with 2 chairs and 2 queen beds. The lobby supplied a plethora of brochures a computer and very agreeable managers to answer questions. Adjacent to the lobby was an area with several tables and chairs where an excellent continental breakfast was provided. The kids really loved the pre-measured cups of batter and waffle maker. The rates in Santa Cruz and this time of year are very high but this hotel was a long way from the most expensive. Considering all that I would say it was a good deal for good service and ammenities. We plan to stay there on future trips.
