My 5 year old son, my husband, and myself traveled to Santa Cruz to attend a family wedding. We stayed at Bay Front Inn for 4 nights. The pool was a little bit dirty the first day, but a service person arrived to clean it the second morning of our stay. The room was pretty basic, but I must add that the beds were exceptionally comfortable. The continental breakfast was adequate. Front desk and housekeeping staff were very helpful and attended to any needs we presented. The location is excellent! We were able to walk to the beach, boardwalk, playground, wharf, shops, restaurants, and the wedding reception easily.

  • Nice for the price

First of all, this is a cheap hotel. It's the only hotel that's within 3 blocks of the ocean AND under $100. Having that said, because it's a cheap hotel it's got a lot of problems. You really get what you pay for, and in this case I wished that I had just paid $30 more for hotels. In fact, I should have read Yelp's reviews that are more conflict free than a hotel reservation site. Noisy. Lots of noise. It's a cheap hotel and it attracts a lot of people that are cheap, and loud, and this is on a week day! I was trying to nap but there were so many kids in the pool. The floors are LOUD, as if wood would pop. The rooms are small but I don't mind that as long as there are amenities-- there's a small microwave and a frig which is pretty handy. The toilet... doesn't flush very well. Flush 3 times, and it should clear up. The bed is super soft, too soft actually. I don't weight that much but I sag when I'm on it. WIFI connection is good and that's probably the only thing that I thought was good. And the location. I mean, the location kicks ass. But that's what you're paying for, not the hotel. Overall, I learned my lessons-- don't trust online ratings especially those hosted by hotel search websites, that Yelp reviews are quite accurate, and you really get what you pay for.

I don?t even know where to begin my nightmare stay at this hotel. The place reeks of mildew! My initial room was tiny, approx 10 x 10 foot, the queen size bed advertized turned out to be a full size bed, the drapes looked to have been up since the late 50?s, were falling apart and wouldn?t fully close, the carpet was filthy, the beds are built up on a makeshift 2x6 frame and all work done in these units appears to have been done by inexperienced non skilled laborers. The bathroom sink was a makeshift affair with exposed pipes, made of plywood and tile, a 2x4 holding one side up about 3? higher than the other. This room honestly would have been over priced at $*, let alone $* with taxes. After 35 years of living in hotels as a professional touring musician, this is the second worse hotel I?ve run across in my life. The clerk checked my room and claimed it didn?t smell then showed me another room, and promptly closed the door saying it was just as bad(Huh? I thought my room didn?t smell), room #3 was just as bad as well. Finally he found us a remodeled room that didn?t smell so much. I reluctantly agreed to stay there as I didn?t know where else to go, all rooms I had walked to nearby where booked. The room was better but still about a $* night room. The walls were paper-thin and the bathroom reeked of bleach.
