We stayed on the 2nd floor, and had 2 queen beds. It was a non-smoking room, but could tell the people who stayed before us smoked in it. The beds were comfy and the fan worked. We had easy access to the pool and spas, and the continental breakfast was more than I expected. They had a make your own waffle station, along with muffins, juice, coffee, etc. Staff was very nice. We'll definetly go again.

My local friends tell me that this hotel had recently changed hands. It was much better than I had expected. In fact, the room was one of the nicest and most comfortable we had on our whole trip. There were tons of pillows, good toiletries, a large fridge and microwave. The room didn't feel cramped. On this particular week, it was very quiet and not crowded. The location is great. You can walk just about everywhere. The wharf, the Boardwalk, West Cliff drive and the Pacfic Avenue Mall are steps away. However, I didn't feel comfortable walking to or from Downtown after dark. The only bad parts were that the pool closed too early (9 pm) and the breakfast was horrible. Frozen waffles and instant coffee just don't cut it. Don't expect anybody to be in the office after 9 either. A good value for the money. I would stay there again.

I found the hotel to be a nice clean place, well kept up. The staff was helpful, the bed quite comfortable, and the area around the hotel was quiet. I can't speak for meeting rooms and activities as I only stayed there one night and spent most of my time elsewhere.
The only complaint I have is that the parking lot seemed to be sized for small cars and most of the people parking there didn't have them, which made me very nervous parking squeezing my Civic in between an oversized pickup truck and an SUV. -

We were very disappointed with what $* a night gives you now-a-days. The room was not well maintained. The furniture was in bad shape. There were mystery stains on the furniture, rugs, and lamp shades. The housekeepers were very slow, rooms not being made up until late afternoon. Also while cleaning they were bringing their children into the rooms. Out of the 6 front office staffers we made contact with only one was nice and apologetic. We asked for the manager to call us because of how upset we were with the cleanliness and service we received, we never received a call. They charge your credit card up front. I asked for a receipt reflecting the refund for the early departure. It was as if I asked for the persons first born. The area around the lodge seemed a bit shady. If you stay in Santa Cruz, do not stay near the wharf or Boardwalk.
