I am not that picky when it comes to hotels. I saw the reviews left by others and thought oh well it's only for one night, BUT this hotel was horrible, I was scared to sleep under the covers, the pillows were so flat i had to fold them three times! The floor was dirty, my daughter was walking barefoot and her feet looked like she walked through dirt! They gave us two bath towels, they were stained with black smudges. They do not have an elevator and we were on the third floor, I had to drag luggage and a child up the stairs. The room was so small I had to lift my bag over the bed to get it into the bathroom. There was nowhere to hang up my clothes I had to hang them on the bathroom door. I couldn't leave this place fast enough, I was expecting to see bugs.

Planned a last minute trip to Santa Cruz. All the other hotels were too expensive for our budget. This hotel was great for its price and location. Nothing fancy but it was safe, clean, and close to the attractions. I recommed this for people who are on a budget and who needs a clean room to stay in!

Going by another review I read about this location, I choose this hotel in error. I personally would not walk the 5 blocks to the boardwalk from this location because it was a little further than I had expected. Also, the room was not what I had expected. I was the only one to sleep under the covers (because I was so cold), whereas my husband and kids would only sleep on top because they didn't trust the sheets. The quilt had burn holes from cigarettes and the sheets had stains. In adddition, a window we tried to open because of a musty smell was broken with exposed glass where someone could have been hurt. We were only given 2 towels when they knew we had 4 people, and there was no kleenex. Lastly, the add states there is "breakfast" which was falsely advertised. The attendant didn't even know why it said that because they didn't even offer coffee. We did not feel safe at this location, and we would not return.

When I walked into the lobby I was almost overcome by the cloying incense the clerk was burning. She was unsmiling and when I asked where the breakfast was served and showed her my travel website confirmation stating that it was one of the ammenities, she told me that was wrong. The room was at the top of a noisy metal staircase with an uncovered trash can 3' from our door. Upon opening the door we noticed a stong oder of stale cigarette smoke. We opened the window for air and there was no screen and people walking by just inches away. The tissue holder in the front of the vanity was missing the box of tissues and completely cover by rust. We pulled down the bedspread and the sheets were dingy and dirty. We absolutely could not sleep in this room. It was disgusting. After 3 hours on the phone with travel website we were relocated to a very nice place at the same rate according to their guarantee. We turmed in our room keys at that time and went to the Ramada Limited which we highly recommend. The Motel Santa Cruzl should be removed from travel website site. When we went back to remove our property from the room there was a steady stream of traffic up and down the noisy stairs outside of our room at 9 pm. It looked like a place that is rented out by the hour. We couldn't flee that place fast enough!

Despite the front desk clerk being very nice and helpful this motel really shouldn't be allowed to charge over $150. The beds were lumpy, the room was sad and dingy and the bathroom was as clean as a severly dilapidated facility could be. My non-smoking room that had the aroma of freshly smoked cigarette was left unused just as soon as we could find an alternative. We felt very unsafe here. My recommendation is splurge for the higher priced hotel, at least you'll feel clean and safe.
